So.. another day in the desert. At least it has started cooling off a bit. And by cooling off, I mean it doesn't get above 130 now. It also has started getting cool in the evening again, rather than having temperatures of 90-100 at midnight.
October is a crazy month out here in Iraq. The muslim religious holiday known as Ramadan begins this month, and goes throughout the entire month. Muslims are supposed to respect eachother during this time, but past history has shown that at least in this area, they think it's a great time to blow eachother up. From what we were briefed on, the ones that believe in 'Jihad' as the 12th pillar of Islam (largely Sunnis) also believe this a great time to try and blow US up. FUN FUN. I can see what they mean already, as last night we were attacked three times in less than an hour and a half.
On top of that, the national referendum and elections are this month, as well as Saddam Hussein's trial. Wee.
I've also been left in charge of running my sections office. So, as well as doing my regular duties in this section, now I'm running the office. Of course in true army style, they gave me 2 weeks to learn everything it took the girl I replaced 8 months to completely figure out. So yea. That's great fun as well. :P
Anyhow.. a buddy of mine, an IRR (Inactive Ready Reserve) from Alabama was telling me that I should be eligible for my next promotion, from SPC (Specialist) to SGT (Sergeant). I'm having it looked into, but if I can get that before my deployment is over, that would kick ass.
Other than the insane amount of crap going on out here, I've just been playing World of Warcraft like an addict when I can. I'm so glad we got that satellite internet set up. I'd have gone mad long ago otherwise.
